Roofing around electrical pole.

Hey jack, do you know how much the utilities in general charge to turn off/recconnect the electricity so a person can roof around it? Thanks. Also, what do the roofers do when they need to replace the boot around it?

You would have to call your electrical company as ask them how much they would charge. Probably not much. You can buy new boots at most home improvements stores or lumber yards.

sealing around roof penetrations

Check with your local roofing supply house and ask them about pourable roof sealers, or pitch pan fillers as they might be more commonly referred to. This material is usually a two part rubber-type polymer mix that you pour into a pan you build around the roof penetration and it sets up like a rubber solid. You pour this onto the installed new roofing once it is finished or even existing roofing surfaces that are properly prepared. the pan you use to build around the pole can be made of metal, wood or even cut out from a large plastic container, you will have to split one side to get it around the pole, but the pan it only necessary to contain the fluid mix you will pour into it. Once the filler sets up you no longer need the pan.the filler then seals the roof to the pole or any other roof penetration. Do a web search using the following term to get some sources of materials and instructions: "pourable pitch pan sealer, or try thias link to Chem Curb: http://chemlinkinc.com/products/inde...hk=1&Itemid=26

this should solve your problem no matter how big the pole is. Good luck and if you need more info write me at rgkettle@sbcglobal.net.
