Replace skylights when roof is replaced?

After discussing w/ a roofing contractor about the replacement of my roof, he suggested also replacing three skylights at the same time the roof is replaced, as the activity during the roof replacement could open up leaks, and the flashing around the skylights can only be done correctly at the time the roof is replaced.

Is my contractor suggesting the right course of action?

If your contractor is suggesting he is not including re-flashing of your skylights with the new roof application....find a new contractor!

Yipes, find a new contractor. Unless the skylights are in poor condition and already leak, there is no reason to expect them to leak anytime soon. But he right about reflashing when the new roof is going on.

When you find a new contractor, tell them exactly what you want.

Consider everything and be sure you know what you are paying for. Have them put it in writing from removing existing shingles, replacing damaged sheathing, applying felt, applying ice shield if applicable, what style and color drip cap etc. nd don't forget debris removal.

Tell them to include flashing the skylights and list whatever else they plan to do. BE specific.

You can avoid misunderstandings by not having any, Be clear.
