Determining Your Type of Roof

I would like to repair some small cracks I noticed on my roof and am having a hard time determining what kind of roof I have. The seller's inspector had it listed as a "Built Up" roof while our inspector had it listed as a "Rubber" roof.

How does one determine one from the other?

Have a few contractors come out and give you a bid.

I don't want to replace the roof quite yet, simply patch some small cracks that I noticed when I was cleaning out the gutters. My issue is determining what type of roof I have so I can purchase the appropriate patching material.

if it`s rubberised bitumen,or hot tar,you can patch cracks with elastomer sealant, and membrane---if it`s hot tar,the final coat is called a flood coat,if its installed too thick, you can get alligator like cracking of the flood coat, you should leave that alone,and/or you can coat either type with fibered aluminum roof coating----or if it is grey/black and looks like a bicycle tire it is EPDM,AND TYPICALLY THAT GETS PATCHED WITH MORE EPDM,OR YOU CAN USE ETERNABOND REPAIR TAPE---TRY AND POST A PICTURE
