Making A Palm Thatch Roof

hello all!

I’m looking for Thatch Roof building techniques. I live in Florida and have access to a ton of Thatch Palm Fronds to build a Tiki style roof with. I have a sturdy metal frame in place. I can guess that I would start by folding the Fronds in half and work from the bottom up, placing them on top of each other, but I wonder if there is a special technique in 'weaving' them.

I thank-you all in advance for any Diagrams, Plans, How to do's, that would help me acquire the shade I need in the back yard before the hot season come upon us.

James.

Mr. Imeduc,

I thank-you for the quick response.

I have had a tough time on this one. I looked up Chick-he Hutch, Chicken hutch, and must say I got a chuckle out of seeing the Chicken pen pop up. I have done some research for Florida Native Indian Houses with nothing. I will try later As I will have more time.

Any other leads would be greatly appreciated.

James.

Hey come on I told it like it is. I had to build a model with my granddaughter. So far I found

House, home, building, structure, apartment.......
Any place where people live is a chikít, also spelled "chickee" or "chikee" in English.

CHICKEE LODGINGS
We certainly were. We slept in a chickee without electricity or plumbing and enjoyed the uniqueness of the experience, although we wondered whether it would be quite so enjoyable during the humid, hot, bug-busy months of summer.

This might give you something to look for. ED
