I have a question. When installing gutters all around a hip-roof, on four sides, how many downspouts are usually required?

It all depends on length of eaves.

I think the important thing is the length of the gutters and not the overhang.
The area of the roof determines how much water you have to get down the downspouts.
It would be a minimum of four downspouts and possibly more depending on the locations and the length of the long gutters.
