Question regarding roof on new addition

Hello,
I am new to this forum, but had a question. My DH and myself are thinking of adding on 700 sq ft addition. We have a typical ranch home now with 8ft ceilings. I would like our addition (Master Suite/Bath) to have vaulted ceilings. Is it possible to simply have our addition higher then the rest of the house and have its own roof without having to tie it in to the existing? Our existing roof is the concrete tiled roof. Also, do you think this is the less expensive way to handle our roof? If not, what would you suggest? I believe that neighbors did that down the street...you can't really notice from the front, but from the side view, it looks like it may be a higher roof. Thanks for you ideas!

You might want to talk to / hire an architect for 1 to 2 hours of consultation - "just to brainstorm".
Take some pictures of your house, then email to the architect with some basic measurements. It may cost you a couple hundred dollars - but might be worth it becuase they can give you some creative ideas that you can then think about and shop around for estimates.
Cheers!
