Lightbulb NOVICE requires ADVICE :S

Alright well the project is a stone house via slipform.

I am in desperate need of some ideas regarding the roof design. Is it possible to have a roof that is supported solely by the external walls? And if so what kind of measures do I need to take to prevent the walls from being pushed out by the weight of the roof?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums!

Roof trusses are normally supported by the 2 opposing walls.

What are you planning to build?

thanks for the welcome.

Funny thing is that right after I made this thread I looked in a DYI book and saw all this info about roof trusses! And I felt a bit silly.

The trusses would be perfect for what I want to do. I'm planning on building a stone and reinforced concrete house. Dimensions are 12m wide by 17m long. I'm from Australia so sorry about the metric.

I had a look at a steel company and it seems like they design a roof system to suit the floor plan and then cut and supply all the materials. All I would have to do is put it all together.
