Metal Roofing on Cottage

Good day to you all. I have a little question. I am going to insulate and reroof my cottage. It is a cathedral type roof and I am going to lay down 2 x 8, insulate an sheat it. Then instal a steel roof. The question I have is: Do I have to take off the old asphalt shingles before installing the the new roof. The current roof consists of 1 x 6 with shingles over them, no vapour barrier and no insulation. I am just trying to save a little time and of course I am well into the bush so the transport to the landfill or wherever they old shingles go may be a problem.
Your thoughts would be appreciated. If you wish you can email at
todd@ntl.sympatico.ca
thanks

DO I get this right? You're going to build a new roof over the old roof?? If that's the case, then, no... you don't need to strip the old roof. You can build a new one right over the old one... though I don't know why you wouldn't strip the old and lay your metal roofing over that....
