Patching Flat Tar and Gravel Roof

What is the best way to patch a tar and gravel flat roof. I have a suspected leak were the flashing on a exterior wall intersects with flat roof.

Bump off thegravel in the suspect area, flood with hot asphalt and 3 layers of felt, spread the gravel back in.

use a spud bar to clear the gravel approximately 3-4 "on either side of metal seam,spray asphalt primer on area,and let dry,then use karnak ultra-trowel same area with thin coat,then set 6"fiberglass membrane(mesh),then trowel heavier coat of karnak ultra(ultra is rubberized flashing cement)---after you are sure you have fixed leak,put a very light coat ultra,and reset in some gravel there to protect the flashing cement from the sun

Tar and gravel roof patch

Thanks for the info ... I cannot get access to a hot tar kettle .. none availble to rent any longer and cannot rent one from a local roofer so rubberized flashing cement appears to be my best option ...

Roof With 2 Different Pitches?

My wife and I are planning on renovating our backyard (pool, hot tub, patio, outdoor kitchen, etc.) but there are some things I'd like to have done to avoid possible problems in the future. Now the problem! We need a new roof. The house was built in 1971 with wood shingles. At some point later, a layer of ashphalt shingles was laid over it. At yet another point, a second layer of ashphalt shingles was laid over the first layer. Now I have to have the entire roof replaced and, remember, there was no decking underneath the wooden shingles. Here's my question: Is it possible to change the pitch of one side of the roof so that it extends farther? We would like the backside of the roof to cover a slab I have in the back. Does that make sense? I want this side of the roof to start and end at their original heights but I want the span / stretch between these points to be longer. Is that possible? Or do I have to reframe the entire section of the roof that will be affected? HELP!!!! RickRead More
