Water in Basement - Please advise

Hello Friends,
Last couple of times when it rained I got water in the basement. The water appears where floor and wall meet. Mine is a finished basement. I cannot tell if there is any crack on the wall unless I break the wallboard. I pulled the carpet and found that water is seeping from the joint. My sump pump has been working fine. The spot where leaked is right below my fireplace and also there is a ash pit clean out door in the basement right above where it leaked. I opened the door and found that water was dripping in to the pit. There is lot of water already in the pit. When I went out to my yard, I found the gutter on both sides of the chimney clogged. I cleaned the gutter after finding it.

I now have to wait for the next downpour to check if the clogged gutter is the source of my problem.

Can you tell me if the water in the pit is caused by the clogged gutter or if there is some thing else I should be lokking for? Is it time to call a professional and have it inspected?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The same thing happened to us...but we don't have any gutters on our house now. My boss mentioned the fact that we don't have gutters on and then he said to check for black tar around house to see if had been sealed. He said when they did a remodel and the gutters were off his house the same thing happened.

Thanks for the feed back. It sounds like, if there are no gutters (or gutters are clogged) then water is expected in the ash pit. I wonder why this water is not going in to the foundation? That way sump pump can remove it.
