Post Rafter Span question

My rafter needs to be 17'4" from LVL beam to wall with a 1 foot overhang. Can someone tell me if i laminate 2x6x8 pieces togehter to achieve that length resulting in a 3" thick solid rafter that is 17'4" will this surfice?

The roof is a 5/12 pitch and I live in New England. It is for a garage.

Thanks.

The snow load would be a big problem for 2 x 6. I would expect 2 x 10's to be sufficient but would check local building codes before proceeding.

I would probably use 2x8x18 ft at 16" on center,if you`re deadset on 2x6`s double them up for rigidity/strength at 16" on center-check out that link michael put up !
