metal roof ridge vent

We have a 12/12 pitch metal roof with a ridge vent that lets in debris, insects, mice and even bats nesting in the ends. We would like to replace this vent with one that does not allow the above and still lets the attic vent. Would any ridge vent allow debris and insects in? It is the bats that concern us the most since they poop in my attic space. They haven't gotten in the attic space but are above it and the poop comes through the slots cut for ventilation. The mice did come in once but I don't see how they climbed my steep roof to do it...where there is a will they find a way I guess...

Thank you for any input on my problem.

rolled mesh with a separate metal capping would work best, similar to a gaf cobra vent (vinyl brillo type)

As the Roofing God stated, "the mesh kind work the best". I would agree with that. In my neck of the woods, we use cap shingles or 3 tab cut into caps to cover the vent. This is very secure and is impossible if nailed properly for any kind of penetration.

metal roof vent

This is a metal cap on a metal roof so shingles do not apply.
