How to calculate shingle order

We are building an addition and I need to try to figure out how many shingles to order (the people who did the rest of our roof last summer agreed to buy the shingles for us through the manufacturer if we tell then how many to get).

The addition is 12 feet 5 feet inches wide by 16 feet long with a 6 in 12 gabled roof with about 10 inches of roof overhang on the two sides.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks in advance.

Roof

"12 feet 5 feet inches wide" is a confusing description. Did you mean 12 feet 5 inches? Also, measure the roof surface to be covered, not the floor area.

Get up on the roof and measure the length and width. Multiply them and you have your area. One square of shingles covers 100sqft. I always allow 10% for waste and starter shingles.
