How far can I run gutters before downspout is needed?
Howdy all -
I'm looking to install gutters on our house. Got everything measured out and looks like a good weekend project. My question is how far can I run the gutters before I need a downspout? The manufacturer recommends one every 40ft. No problem seeing how but all of my runs are under 40ft. The one that's in question is about 60ft. It's the one I really would like NOT to run in the front of the house or by the garage as both of these seem to run back too the house. If I can get it to 60ft, I can send it away from the house and garage. What's ya'll's opinion? I'll be using vinyl gutters from the box store.
Thanks for any and all inputs...

Vinyl gutters in sections from a big box store are a problem waiting to happen.
I had a 56' x 32' lake home with an attached garage on one side.
On the 56 run, with "high efficiency" down spouts at both ends, but I had nothing but problems. The problem of pine needles from a white pine and some leaves made it worse.
To do it again, I wouldl go with large continuous aluminum gutters. No matter what time of the year, I had problems with the overflow and topping and slashing on the concrete patio and forever trying to keep the 4 sliders with larhe overjanges reasonably clean. Heavy summer downpours were a problem. DIY has limited result depending on the availability of materials.

the vinyl gutters will sag and crack in just a few years. go with continous guttering and put a down spout on each end of your 60 ft run that way it will only be a 30 ft run for each down spout.
