How to prevent water seepage with a slab?

I heard a few people in the neighborhood had this problem due to Fay and apparently it is fairly common in Florida.

Water seepage comes up from the group through the slab.

Some common items to help prevent this are downspouts and have them drain 3 feet or more from the house.

Anyone have any web sties that discuss this specific issue and what to do in order to help prevent this from happening in the Florida area?

You cannot change the way your house was built, so you have a couple of options:

1. Keep the water as far away from your home and make sure it runs away. Three feet is feeble excuse for a downspout extension. In a real storm, substitute with a 10 foot extension and then put the 3' one back in after the storm to look "pretty".

2. I you get water or even just moisture/high humidity run dehumidifiers and AC ro prevent any possible mold.

3. If it is a lot of water, jerk the carpet and replace. It is not worth saving in the long term.
