Roof Shingles Discolored

My roof shingles have been getting these brown like streaks on them. I have seen this on other houses in my neighborhood.
It seems to be only on the side that faces north. I took some oxyclean with a toothbrush and it washes off.
anyone ever see this before?

Mold/mildew.....
It can be cleaned (carefully! It's a long drop!) with a bleach solution and a soft brush. You want to avoid rubbing off too many granules on the shingles.

There are zinc(?) strips you can slip under the shingles further up the roof to prevent this.

Do a search for "roof mildew", plenty of info. Prob some right on this site, but I didn't look.

thank you for your reply. I never thought of mildew on a roof, but after my search I got an education.
