Frozen gutters

With all of the rain and snow we've had so far in this short witner season, I have found many icicles forming around our home's gutters. I've raked inches of snow off the roof up to a couple of feet from the gutters to try and head off any ice damming that could potentially occur. My main concern is the frozen gutters and the icicles that are forming. Is there anything I can do to free up the gutters and downspouts, or have I done enough to prevent any major problems and continue to remove any large amount of snow from the roof edges?

Thank you in advance.

Do you have adequate attic insulation and ventilation? Are air gaps from below attic sealed to prevent entry of warm, humid air into attic? Typically, you can drive through the neighborhood and check out the roofs on homes. Melting snow and ice dams are usually a sign of air gaps from below, inadequate insulation, and/or inadequate attic ventilation.
