leak in roof

i have an asphalt roof with a leak. i repaired with that black tar roof patch stuff several months back and have laid plastic down in my attic to catch any leakage getting through.

i check it periodically and its usually fine, but after all day rains or heavy down pours there usually is about a 1/2 gallon collected on the plastic.

i need a few month temp fix before i can get it completely replaced.

should i re apply more tar and reinforce my plastic rain barrier in the attic; or replace the shingles in that area.

when i applied the tar the 1st time; i applies it in a 4'x4' area to ensure i covered; i'm afraid i cannot replace the small area of shingles in this area because if the tar (im also not too comfortable replacing the shingles myself) is this an easy job

should i break down and pay for a temp fix then replace it in two or three month?

any sugguestions would be great

thanks
JC

asphault roof? do you mean flat tar roof? or asphault shingles? much difference in how to repair.

the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys

take out "your" repair area, and have the shingles replaced by a Roofing contractor, also have them check the roof for any other problems,or actual leak cause
If you post roof pics of the area (close up) we can probably tell why it`s leaking
