Probably a stupid question about Mule Hide Peel and stick roofing

Just put some on an addon to my house. Local place said this is the way to go for the small area I had to do and the real low slope I had. Well before I bought this I thought I'd put it up there and it would be real sticky. I just put it on there and the shingle part had pretty much zero stickyness to it but the 4 inch strip for bonding had stickyness to it. I've never installed these and wondering if this is how you do it? The guy sold me some sealant in caulking form to do the seams and edges but are the rest of the shingle area suppose to be real sticky?

Thanks in advanced

Did you peal the backing off? is it a 3' roll? the 4" strip is a lap seal. when the sun heats this up it will stick and you will never get it up. i am really not sure what you did but a pic might help!
