Roofing question from Texas

Hello

Hoping someone might be able to answer a question for me.

Our home was damaged by Hurricane Ike this summer-after battling with our insurance company-we finally got approved for a new roof.

Then came the battle to find a roofer. I called 20 or 30 companies and only five actually called me back or came when promised (the others assured me they would send someone out but never did).

For those of you who don't live in Texas, it is not a consumer friendly state. There are no boards to certify most contractors, including roofers. The company we decided to go with was listed with the local BBB-but we have found that doesn't mean much (we have had numerous problems with BBB certified businesses-none of them resolved). Usually we rely on word of mouth to find businesses, but no one else we knew suffered any roof damage and did not know any reputable roofers. A few of our neighbors have replaced their roofs since then, but at that point we were the first in our neighborhood.

So, they come out and do the job...and right away I noticed this "rippling" in the roof in about three areas. Two on our roof overhang on the front porch and one over our garage (which covers an attic area). The areas are basically just raised a little from the other part of the roof. I asked the owner about them, and he said it was the "decking" and didn't compromise the integrity of the roof (although it doesn't look pretty).

My husband says not to worry about it-but I have a great fear of our roof blowing off during the next hurricane that decides to grace us with its presence. I know no one that knows anything about roofs, so I am really lost. I found this forum after searching on the internet forever.

If anyone could just give me a clue about this, I would be grateful!

Thanks, N in Texas

Pictures would be very helpful in determining what's going on. My guess would be they either used the wrong sized sheathing (or decking/plywood/OSB depending on who you ask, same thing), or they just didn't do a great job matching up to the old stuff.

But this is just a guess without being able to see it. I can't emphasize enough how helpful pictures would be. Go take some and upload them to a site like Photobucket and post them.
