Who and how do they determine you had 2 1/2 inch hail (often hail is not even round, when that size), and not claim it was a slightly lesser size?

Maybe I missed it in third grade, but what difference does the size matter if you have damage? Do they pay by the size, now?

They aren't about to cover damage from bowling ball size hail. I think that is reasonable. They have to draw the line somewhere as to up to what size hail that will warranty their roofing from hail damage.

But what I don't get is what if it hailed at night and 2 inch hail shrunk in the lawn down to 1/2 inch overnight. And then the company were to say something like, "Sorry but reports have it that the hail in your area was 3 inches. Sorry."

So I am wondering what they go by, and whose word they take, or what?

I think it all depends on the adjuster that comes to look at the damage. If the metal manufacturer is who you are trying to get the warranty from, they should send someone out to see the damage. Regardless what anyone else says it is ultimately up to the adjuster if they are going to pay (or replace) or not. Sorry but that is just the way it is unless you wish to use a lawyer and his adjuster to dispute the manufacturer.
