Roof tear off ?
I will be tearing off the roof from my garage this weekend. It has two layers and the first layer is in pretty bad shape ( curling, breaking apart etc.) my question is what is the easiest way to strip it and how long does it take. The roof is about 20'x10' on each side. I have a standard pointed shovel and a good size crowbar. Anything else? Thanks

A roofing shovel/scraper or a spade fork will make removal easier. Matter of fact at the local HD this last weekend, they were clearancing out a bunch of those 2 items. Guess they changed suppliers or something.
Heres a good article with pictures and descriptions.

We use standard pitch forks to remove the shingles. Then we like to follow up with a shignle ripper because of the theeth it has to pop out all the old roofing nails. It goes fast this way. If you are in real good shape, my roofers can tear off a single layer of shingles in 30 minutes per square. Add another 15 minutes for the 2nd layer. Since it's a garage and you don't do this every day, add another 15 minutes
This is assuming we can place the dumpster directly next to the building and throw the garbage right in and not have to touch it twice.
