ridge vent

I am building a storage shed. It is 8x16. For ventilation I am doing a ridge vent. I have the necessary hip and ridge shingles. I believe they are Owens Corning. Question. Is it necessary to install the continuous ridge ventilation material prior to the ridge shingle, or, can the ridge shingle be placed directly over the ridge itself? Thank you.

Generally you shingle up to the slit in the ridge, then place the vent material. Some ridge vents are the ridge cap and need no shingles. Some need to have ridge shingles applied on top of the vent material. It depends on the type you have.
