Need to buy shingles, help......

I live near Buffalo, NY, my roof has no shade from the sun. I need a put on a new roof but every one tells me that all shingles are not the same. I want to put on architectural shingles, it will be a re-roof, I only have one layer of 3 in 1 on there now. I asked a few roofers and they all tell me the band shingle they put on are the best, I think its because it the only shingle their supplier carries. I've heard pros and cons about IKO, Owens Cornings, etc, does anyone know what would be a good thirty year shingle to put on my house, I need something for snow, wind, and sun. Any ideas would be very helpful, thanks......

I don't know much about roofing, but I do know they usually do not honor the 30 year "warranties" if you shingle over existing shingles. Just a thought.

If you tear off the old, the new shingles with definitely last longer - no question!

A good contractor can get whatever you want since this is even possible in Buffalo. If he is a low buck artist, he may not have access to all brands.

Heat (and the excessive heat on an old application) is the enemy of a roof surface. Cold is not really a problem unless you tromp around and shovel or blow snow in the winter.
