Metal roof & shingles

I have a dormer on my house. It was shingled when I moved in but I think it is way too flat for shingles. Pitch is 1:12 I believe. After the bad winter I did get some leaks so I need to do something.
I was thinking I would like to do metal on this particular section. Does anyone know if I can do metal on one part and shingles on the rest of the house. How does the top cap work?

Thoughts?

You are right about that pitch. Minimum pitch is 3:12 for asphalt shingles. Not sure on the specifics for the metal roof, but I don't see why it couldn't be done. You just need good flashing between the shingles and metal.

Since your also in Minnesota check out Menard's. They have some good displays and the day guys at the lumber desk can be quite knowledgeable.

Thanks for the info. Most I have talked to have thought that both can be used.
Just wish it would stop raining so one can get up on the roof.
