Re Roofing questions

Hi
I am going to re roof a cape house i am buying. on the front side there is a bit of a step down/ offset (6 inches maybe) from an addition. what is the best way to flash that? small step flashing? Also, on the back half of the cape is the dormered end. is the best way to put in new step flashing to remove the vinyl siding on the sides of the dormers or can i slip flashing under the vinyl siding? is there a way to post pictures?

hi
on lower part you will need to install step flashing from the bottom up on each row of shingle.
make sure you add roofing cement along the top of the step flashing then install a wall flasing to cover the step flashing
for the top of the offset install a starter strip to cover the top of the wall flashing where it meet the the upper roof part
