leaky gutters

I have metal gutters (either galvanized or aluminum). They are kind of an ogee-shaped gutter, in about 10-foot lengths with couplings between each joint. There are several joints that leak. During the winter and spring, snow thaws, drips on the sidewalk, then freezes, leaving the sidewalks continuously icy.

I've tried silicone caulk, roofing tar and a variety of other jury-rigged methods to seal the joints, but none seem to work.

Any suggestions, short of replacing with seamless plastic gutters?

Thanks

I've had good luck with Geocel Watershield.

Make sure all the old sealant has been removed and the gutter is clean and dry. Brush the stuff on, coating all sides of the joint. You may need a couple coats.
