Proper Gutter Installation - Advice Needed

Hi All,

I would like to replace a few flimsy and bent aluminum gutters on a portion of my house. Due to the roof style on this portion of the house, the new gutters need to be roof mounted (as opposed to fascia mounted). The existing gutters are currently roof mounted, but several of the brackets are poorly attached.

In order to secure the new roof-mount brackets, I will have to remove a few shingles. Here's my question - can the new brackets be mounted on top of the ice/water shield that is located under the shingles? It will be alot of work to remove and replace the ice/water shield, so I don't want to do this unless its absolutely necessary.

Thanks for any advice!

Yes. Hopefully you can still lift up the shingle tabs enough to get the hanger nailed on then apply a touch of sealant under the shingle tab and flatten it back down.
