Cutting through joists, what saw?

I have a three story (three level) porch which has been reconstructed several times in the last 100 years. It is a mixture of "modern" and "full dimension" lumber. The fir decking is nailed into the joists.

Most of the joists are 2 x 6 on ten foot spans. I would like to reduce the spans to five feet by cutting the joists and inserting more hanger joists.

Can anyone recommend a saw with which I can cut through the joists without cutting into the decking.

I have a blade for my saber saw that is extra wide, all to the front, so it cuts almost flush. I assume you are installing a new beam recessed up into the existing joists, just make sure the load on each end is properly supported and you use adequate temporary support.
