Gutter Installation?????????

I recently had a new roof installed and i had the roofers tear off all my old guttering. I want to paint the fascia before installing the new guttering. My fascia has the 1x2 trim all around the hip roof, this causes a 3/4" gap between the gutter and the fascia board. Can i remove the 1x2 trim? This way the gutter will rest flat agianst the fascia. Not sure the purpose of the 1x2 trim. Thanks

Can you put the gutter below the trim?

The 1x2 is kind of a drip edge before metal drip edge was around. I would imagine that your roofers installed a metal drip edge over the 1x2 which now extends the shingles past the 1x2. If you were to eliminate the 1x2 your shingles would extend too far past the roof and likely sag. Putting the gutters below the 1x2 as drooplug suggested might be your best bet.

Or, you can install a one by whatever, to just fit behind the gutter for support. Once the gutter is up, you won't be able to see it.

Am i thinking wrong. If i remove the 1x2 totally the gutter would mount flush on the fascia and give me about 1.5" of shingle hanging into the gutter for better water flow.

Tell the roofer to come back and ask him to replace that little drip edge he just put in by a flat roof drip edge instead..they are a lot wider 6" instead of 1".they will cover part of the facia so you wont have to paint it and provide a better seal against water infiltration since your new gutter will fit under the wide drip edge.no more water leak in the future between your facia and gutter.
