How much do I overlap felt

I'm starting my first ever roofing job. I'll put down 30# felt. When I put down the second course, how much do I overlap it with the first course I've already nailed down? A couple inches? Half the width? Somethign else entirely?

Overlapping

Tom;
I am not a roofer but I do recall that on several types there are usually lines drawn onto the felt. Lay the first couse, locate the lines, then have the bottom of the second couse lay on that line. I forget what the actual overlap is if no lines, but at least 6" seems to ring a bell in my head. )Along with the ringing in my ears!)

Yep...agree with Bob...I think there are also recommendations on the felt paper label and the shingles.

Just don't trust the lines for laying out your courses of shingles. Measure and snap a chaulk line.
