problem with roofer

Hi this is not specifically a do-it-yourself question, but sort of. I am renovating an attic and reinsulating while also having the roof shingled buy a contractor. Today, there were forecast of rain, but the roofer went ahead and tore off the shingles from one side of the roof, but before he got to installing the ubnderlay we had a bog thunderstorm. because the decking is planks, with 1/4 inch spaces between, I had a fair bit of water come in before he got tarps up and even after since there were holes in his tarps. So my question is, what responsability does the roofer have for any insulation/plaster damage?

Thanks, for any advice.

What does your contract say about this?

You do have a copy of a current certificate of liability from the contractors insurance company, right?
