ice build up
#1
We have just developed a leak inside our home just under an area of our roof that has alot of ice build up. Any suggestions on what I should do to stop the leak now, and how to prevent it from occurring again?

The leak will go away after everything melts. to stop it in the future, you need to install what is called an ice dam.
They are rapidly becoming code all across the country. The shingles would have to be removed approximately 3' up your roof from the edges, then roll down the ice dam, and re-roof. The ice dam keeps ice from backing up under the shingles. In some parts of the country, home owners, are beginning to install pop off gutters. These are gutters, you pop off during the winter, and snap back on in the spring. Good Luck. This is a job for a roofer.

I don't think you have any there at this time. Otherwise the ice would not back up. For what little time it will leak, probably not much damage at least to the roof. Have this repaired though in the spring.
