Roof Repair/Replacement

Help!
I am about to have my roof repaired/replaced, and to stay within the $$ that the insurance company gave us, my contractor recommended doing a layover on top of my existing roof instead of tearing it off and replacing it.
He said that it is to code, however I what to know if this method of repair is acceptable.
Please respond ASAP!
Thanks!

If it a matter of money on an insurance claim then you can do that. Your contractor is correct, it is within the code.
You new roof however in about a year will look a little wavey. In other words, the shingles will not lay flat because they are laying on other shingles. The cost difference would probably be about $30.00 a square more.
Good Luck
