Gutter guard selection help

I live in S.E. Virginia and have a small ranch with a hip roof and tons and tons of long needle pine trees around the house. I'm about to have new gutters installed and need some opinions on what type of gutter guards would be better for me. I'm getting to the point that climbing the roof to clean the gutters is beyond my ability. I have a 16" overhang and in the past, I've gone without gutters, but, I need to change that. Any help/advice will be appreciated.

Go to your local library and see if you can find a copy of the September 2010 Consumer Reports. They had a good article and review of a number of professional and D.I.Y. install gutter guards.

Welcome to the forums!! Do the research, as goldstar suggested. They had a good report. From a practical and experienced standpoint, don't get any of the gutter guards that have holes in the main body. You need a smooth top with a capillary acting edge to return the water to the gutter, but extricate the needles and leaves from the roof. It is similar to the "gutter helmet" which is a brand name. Big orange sells 3' sections of them. They will work great, provided you don't have too steep a roof. They will lay under your shingles and clip to the front of the gutter.

Amerimax Snap-In Gutter Filter - 86279 at The Home Depot

those were rated hi in CR and i put them on about a month or so ago. however, i've yet to be home while it's heavily raining in daylight so i cant tell you if they work or not. If not it's less than 100 down the drain for me so i figured ill go cheap first and if they dont work, then i know i need to spend the $$$.

Also i dont have needles, just many leaves so these may not be the best for you.
