Hello Folks, When I first bought this house after a heavy rain I used to get a bad leak between the gutters and the house in one area.I re did a bathroom under that area and found that the
insulation on the exterior wall was all wet. I appeared to have fixed the problem with a piece of flashing between the roof
and the gutters. Now after the recent storm here in N.Y.,I have an ice melt and refreeze problem in the same spot. After some sniffing around I found that there is an ice build up in the soffit in the same place and the leak is now coming down the outside wall and freezing. When I installed the flashing, the roof and everything appeared to be in good shape and I can't find how the water is getting into the soffit in the first place. There is no water problem in the attic on the roof in that area or anywhere I can see to suggest how the water is getting into the soffit area. Any help would be appreciated!!! Also, do you think the water is getting into the wall again??? Thank you in advance for your help.Eric

there is a product onthe market called ice and water shield. And lots of other names but what it is is a self sticking rubber type sheet. It is about three ft.wide.remove about 4 ft.of your shingles from the bottom leaving the drip edge in place.peel the paper or plastic(whichever)stick it down reshingle and should be fine.when i was up there in ny sometimes we would go 6 ft up with that should help

I am guessing that your water is coming in from some other place. One thing you might do is crawl up into your attic crawl space and try to see where the water has run cown the inside of your roof. Another thing to check is around any vents. You do have a bad leak. Another question is does you roof have a drip edge around the edges so the water will run into your gutters.
