Can I repair my single with a 3 tab shingle

I am repairing a hole in my roof which occurred from a fallen tree limb. My existing asphalt shingles look like this:

If I can't find the same ones, can I replace the damaged shingles with 3 tab asphalt shingles?

Thanks,
Guy

Frankly that would be a pretty ghetto solution. You can surely find those shingles somewhere... they look like Owens Corning Duration laminated shingles to me, or GAF Timberline cool white, but there are a lot of brands that look similar. Anything that is laminated would look better than a 3 tab shingle. 3 tabs would also have more leak potential if the hole was patched improperly.

If the problem is the size of the shingle is different (many companies have switched from Imperial to Metric units) and you can't find the standard 12" x 36" shingles, you can always get the metric size and just trim them to the correct length and stick with the existing exposure.
