Drainage ditch for gutter runoff

I've extended 4" corrugated pipe from my Gutters. I have used a pop up emitter on them and have put drainage rock under the pop up. Should I put landscape fabric over the rock before I cover it with dirt and sod? And would it have been better if I laid down the fabric before I put the rock in?? Thanks for the help...

Yes, put landscape fabric over the rock. Yes, it might have been better if you put fabric underneath it as well. The purpose of the fabric is to keep the dirt from infiltrating your rock.

Sump pump pipes

[FONT=times new roman][FONT=Calibri]I have a house built in 1935 with a little water in the basement. I found that one of the clay pipes under the cement floor that feeds into the sump pump pit was damaged. I sledge hammered a trench around the basement, and I will be putting PVC pipe with two holes on the bottom for drainage. I have been told to put down gravel first and wrap a “sock “around the PVC pipe. I have conflicting stories as to if I should put 6 mil plastic over the pipe and or use a ground cloth for weeds over the pipe before cementing over the top of it. I have a 6" diameter hole about 16' deep through about 13' of hard digging clayey soil into some nice soft fine sand. This sand is about like we get for plaster sand around here. I would go deeper but I can not bring up more of the sand, probably because I shake it out of the auger post hole digger bringing it up. This hole is not straight but looking down it looks a little like a cork screw. I can however see the bottom. Now I would like to case this hole with something perforated at the bottom and solid at the top. I have a choice of polyethylene perforated drain line and the same in solid. 4" is the largest I can find easily. If I look around a little I might be able to find PVC with the same conditions of perfed and solid. I intend to fill the casing with gravel then line the hole with finer gravel that will find its way all the way to the bottom. Now I need advice on which kind of material or another if there is one is better for what I plan to do. I have more time and muscles than money. Any advice?Read More
