roofing nails are raising up on shingle roof

How should I make repairs when the shingle roofing nails are coming up on a 1x8 plank decking ?

Do you have attic access? If you do I would suggest pulling them down with pliers and giving them a slight bend.

Wayne's suggestion sounds like what I would do.
The only question I have is why/how are they popping up?

I'm guessing this might be a re-roof?

what does cause this to happen? It was suggested that I have a lack of adequate ventilation in the attic. Could this be it?

I've always attributed it to varying conditions like humidity and temperature that cause the boards to repeatedly swell and shrink. Every time the boards expand they pull the nail out a tiny bit. Then they shrink leaving the nail sticking up a bit. Every cycle it goes through pushes the nail up a bit further.
