gutter leak at mitered corners
what causes gutters to leak at the mitered corners and what is the best method to correct this issue...with some recent snow melt I noticed one of the gutters was leaking right under the bottom edge of a mitered corner. I know I will probably need to wait until spring bto address the issue but would like to know what type of sealent works best in these situations. Thanks

Some installers who run seamless gutters will make their own mitered corners out of 2 long runs of gutter. Others prefer to use premade corners, which actually creates a joint on each side of that premade corner. (the possibility also exists that the premade corner could spring a leak) And then the corners are often dropped the lowest, and can sometimes be dropped below the drip edge causing a leak potential on the back side of the gutter. And even a properly flashed gutter could leak from behind- sometimes capillary action causes water to follow the drip edge and leak where it shouldn't. Those leaks are a pain in the neck to find and fix.
If you could somehow narrow down the leak that might help... but my most general advice would be to get yourself a can of Geocel Watershield brushable sealant... a similar product is Geocel Pro-flex brushable sealant. I actually prefer the Pro-flex, it's a little runnier and is self levelling. The Watershield is a little thicker, and is like brushing on clear silicone. Both are great for gutter leaks. Just coat the inside of the seam, and maybe pour some in the bottom and let is self-level.
