Roof reppair in wet weather

A few Shingles were blown off our roof. There is bare wood showing. We are to have it repaired in 2 days. Problem it rained last night and water seeped through. We know exactly water is coming from...just keeps raining. Can we put tar on a wet roof? Will there be a mildew issue if we but on shingles? We are looking for an emergency roofer but not sure what to do in the mean time. Thanks for any help.

Generally a tarp is a better way to go. Cover the hole and run the tarp over the roof's ridge to prevent water getting under it from above. If you tar it now it will be difficult to get it to stick to the wet wood and it makes a horrible mess for the roofer to clean off.

Or take a piece of tin and shove it under the shingles above so that it sheds water. Once you get it repaired, the roof will dry out- mold isn't a big problem when it's cool. If it was summertime, it might be a different story.
