Bigdpops [CopperRroof -White Spots]

I have, what I believe to be, a copper roof over my front porch. It has white spots that have developed close to where the roof is attached to the house. I tried scrubbing them with a general purpose cleaner, but it didn't do much.

Any ideas on what I could use to address this problem?

Welcome to the forums!

Are you sure it is a copper roof? How can you tell? Could you please post a picture?

I am not totally sure that it is copper. What else might it be. I will get a picture.

It could be steel, tin, aluminum, or asphalt if it a sheet type material. If it is shingle type material it could be clay tile, slate, asphalt, steel, etc.

Stick a magnet to is and see if it will stick. If it does, it is steel.

If it is a copper roof, it could be a galvanic reaction to some underlying non-copper nails. Try the magnet on the white spots to see if steel nails were used. Pictures may tell us more.
