Ridge Venting

I'm having a new roof installed and the guy wants to put in a Ridge Vent. The attic has no Soffits and no Gables. I do have a window on either end of the attic. What do I do to get enough air flow for the Ridge Vents to work?

Are the windows in dormers since you don't have gables?

It's hard to recommend much without seeing your house & roof. Has your roofer recommended any way of getting cool air into the attic?

Hi Ginni,
Do you have soffits and just no openings in them? If you have no soffits then there are edge vents that can be installed under the lowest row of shingles. If you have traditional gables, then low roof vents can be used, but most do not like their looks.

Tell us approximately where you are so we will know the climate and describe the roof on your house. If you haven't been having a problem, you may be able to wait.

yes you should be able to vent the soffit somehow. Quarrix makes vented ridge roll and other products that might help. You need that draw from the bottom to the ridge to have a probaly vented system. Especially these days when asphalt shingles dont stand up as well and manufacturers wont warranty without proper ventilation

If it doesn't have any ridge or soffits, how was it vented before?

Can you post up a picture?
