Fascia preparation for painting

I recently had the roof and fascia replaced. The Fascia is 2x8. The roofers did a bad job with the joints and there are gaps in the joints and indentation marks from the nails. I called them back to fix the joints and they put some patching material and it is ugly. I don't want to call them back. What type of putty or other material should I use to fix the gaps? Also do I have to putty over every nail indentation and if so what material I should use? By the way, they used the big box store pre-primed lumber.

Preprimed 2 X 8's?
An 8" wide facia?
Something just sounds wrong here.
Got a picture?
I agree if it was wrapped in coil stock there never would be a need for paint again.

Even though I'm a painter, I agree wrapping it with aluminum is best!

Joints are best filled with caulking. Nail holes are normally filled with painter's putty but sometimes caulking works ok. A lot depends on the job at hand. ,,,,,,Pics would be nice - http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html
