How do I install gutters on a steep pitch roof where the shingles past soffit?

I have to put on new gutters to replace ones that are not working properly. There is a steep pitched roof and the shingles extend about 3" past the soffit. I have attached a picture. Thanks for any suggestions.

Welcome to the forums! Without our regular issue XRay vision glasses, we can't see through the guttering to the shingles. It would help to have a picture from above. Knowing where the gutters are mounted in relation to the fascia would help, too.

#1 Those shingles never should have been over hung that far, cut them back to 1"
Those cheap DIY plastic really should be replaced with seamless gutters. With a roof that steep I'd have them install 7" wide not the standard 5" to catch more water.

My opinion is to hire it done - DIY gutters come in pieces which then have seams which will leak whereas a pro can put up better seamless gutters,

Here is one area which I agree that DIY is not the best solution. Mitch hit it on the head. They come out in their cute little truck, make gutters on the spot the length you need, hang them and are gone like the Lone Ranger.

Around me there are seamless guys that are advertizing "chop and drop" gutters. Meaning that they will come out and form the seamless gutter to length and you install them on your house. Price they are quoting is $2 a foot.
