Possible water damage?

Was wondering if the photos in this message indicate water damage? One of the pictures shows where i rubbed the wood and a dust like residue was present. These are pics of an area near my chimney. Any help would be appreciated.Name: Photo Jun 24, 9 12 52 PM.jpg

Welcome to the forums!

The stains just mean that the wood has gotten wet in the past. What does the wood sound like if you tap it? or poke it with a screwdriver? As long as the wood is still sound/solid, the stains don't hurt it structurally.

I have similar marks in my attic. Mine are old stains prior to the previous owners redoing the shingles.
marksr pretty much asked the questions I would ask.

At a minimum I'd be on the roof not in the attic checking the chimney flashing and crown.

Looks like water damage to me. I'd say you are going to have to replace all of those boards or you might be looking at mildew and other damage that will cause you to spend a lot more money than you should have to.
