Roofing Nailer Lubrication??

I loan my Hatachi roofing gun to a friend and when I asked if he had any air tool lubrication oil he said he did not but would used AFT fluid, which he described as a better substitute. The person I loaded the gun to is quite knowledgeable; however, over the years I have acquired numerous air tools and never heard of using ATF on air tools so I told him I preferred he used either 30w non detergent oil, or air tool oil. Anyhow, I got to wondering if in fact ATF would not be a better substitute? Has any member's used ATF and/has an opinion???

Just depends on whether there is a warranty with the gun or not. I wouldn't use anything but approved gun oil in mine. They are my livelihood and I wouldn't use something that wasn't approved for such a use. I guess you could use any lubricant, but I am sure there are properties in certain ones that could degrade rubber seals, etc.

Agree, always keep air tool oil on hand. Did contact Hitachi tech couple yrs. ago concerning my vintage Hitachi jack hammer to order appropriate lubrication and since the lub was backordered they advised me to use 30w non detergent in the meantime??? Thank you for the input, glad I made it clear no ATF as a lubricant!!!
