ridge vents: How to properly install?

How far down from the peak do I cut on either side to open up the peak area for proper ventalation and installation of ridge vents from Certainteed?

Measure in from the gable end about 12 to 18 inches from the gable end and remove about a 1 inch strip from either side of the ridge.
Before cutting remeber to remove any nails that might be in the way.
set your saw to the same width as the roof deck as to not damage the rafters.
Remeber when installing the vent system,the nails should catch each rafter and flush not nailed home.
