Flat Roof/Foam Roof

Has anyone ever had a foam roof installed or had experience with one? On paper, they sound great for flat roofs. Or would a torch-down/single ply roof make more sense? Thanks for your help!

hi Ben. First off a foam roof is very expensive and very hard to maintain.I worked on a large commercial project usin that same system.The contractor and the higher ups of the building decided to rip up the foam and go with a torchdown due to the moisture and the continual upkeep the foam required.Its up to you but i would definatly go with torch down if it were me

Don't trust my contractor

Hi, During a strong storm,a tree fell on my house damaging the right and left elevation(? term used by insurance co.) Basically, half of the roof collapsed and the back wall caved in. Damages totalled 30k. I feel that I have been shortchanged by the contractor. According to the insur est., there is supposed to be a 4/12 slope truss (I don't understand roof terms). The roof has been repaired not replaced. He has used some used materials, ie spliced wood for the deck roof. Should I hire a separate inspector to make sure that everything is done correctly?Read More

the roof on my 1959 house

My house was built in 1959 and has about a 3/12 pitch roof with gable ends. The entire inside has a vaulted ceiling that is paralles with the roof. My problem is this; I have a water leak in one of the bedrooms so I feel like I need to reshingle the house. I am concerned however because on closer inspection I have found that there is no ventalation between the shingles and the interior sheetrock, and I am worried that I might have a problem with the decking rooting. So if I just reshingle I would basically be covering up the real problem. What I have thought about doing is to basically fer-up the roof using ripped 2x4's placed over the existing rafters, redecking over these 2x4's this time leaving space for ridgeventing of course.
