slate shingles

i am interest in the method of installing new shingles. slate is not as flexable,therefore not allowing the same technic as asphalt. how do i raise good shingles to install the new ones,have tools to do the work.

 

morning elliott.Ok have you got your nail puller?looks kinda like one of those slim jims for opening car doors,slide that up uner the broke shingle and move it around util it catches on the nail.gently but firmlyworry that nail out,do it for the other side.once you have the broken one out we take a piece of copper about 5-6 inches long by about an inch thick.make yourself a short hook on one end that the bottom of the new shingle will fit into.put the copper in the center of the shingle that was under your broken one and drill a hole through both making sure that there is enoug left to hook to new shingle once in place .nail copper down(copper nails) slide new one under old one finish bending hook over thae bottom of new shingle and wahla fixed.lots easier to do than to explain hope this helps you out
